Invading the vintage

Posted By Josh Dillon
07.15.2009

Alien invasion and vintage Swiss postcards combine to make a Flickr photo set called “Invading the Vintage.” Illustrator Franco Brambilla has combined his trademark Sci-Fi style with vintage tourist postcards to add a creative twist on an old theme.

More images can be found in his Flickr photo set, as well as his portfolio site.

AC_Lebowski-book

Rabid fans of the Coen Brother’s cult classic, The Big Lebowski have been gathering all over the US for years now, at a music and cinema festival simply known as “Lebowskifest.”

What the f&k is that, you may ask? Clearly, you’re not a golfer.

Cutom Bike Ride

Bikes, built beautifully.

Fast Boy Cycles, out of NYC, is producing some custom built bikes that don’t just look like a designer’s dream mode of transportation, they show like they should be framed on a wall. The company, run by Ezra, is a small cycle development firm that revels in custom orders.

In addition to the main site location they also have an affiliated fender site, Fast Boy Fenders, for those cyclists interested in a touch of class for their non-custom models. All – in – all a sleek little package indeed.

365 Days of stormtroopers

Storm Trooper 365

The photographer (Stéfan) of this Flickr photo set decided to add one photo a day, 365 days in a row, of Storm Trooper action figures in all kinds of unique situations. Some of funny, others are heartwarming, while others just seem like a couple of action figures, you know, hanging out.

While this idea at first glance seems a little dry and without merit except to the uber Star Wars fan, upon closer examination the action figures really do seem to come to life.

Posed inquisitively when faced with a situation similar to above; hugging each other on the beach as manly, rebel fighting comrades sometimes will do; looking scared when faced with a wookie action figure; all emotions are conveyed without even seeing their faces. You can just tell that they’re thinking “How in the Force did I get into this mess?”

You can see the full photo set (and subscribe for updates) at Stéfan’s feed over on Flickr.

The Auteurs

TheAuteurs

When working I often watch movies from such sites as Fancast, Hulu, Sidereel and other streaming video sites.

While most of the time this just amounts to listening to my favorite dialog from movies I’ve already seen, sometimes I can find movies that I never quite got around to viewing. One of the problems with catching up on cinema knowledge in this way is that the movies I really want to see are unavailable on the previously mentioned streaming video sites.

Historical chess perspective

Posted By Josh Dillon
07.01.2009

The above video, produced by Boym Partners, shows a carefully choreographed interpretation of world events in the century’s past. Major disasters; great achievements all executed on a masterfully played chess board. Each piece represents a certain moment in history, for better or worse.

Not sure how I feel about the outcome, or the presentation for that matter, but I thought it was worth a look.
