Layer Tennis

Posted By Josh Dillon

What does Layer Tennis even mean?

Design talent from across the globe competes in a one-on-one, no holds barred, live action design contest, whereby participants are given a topic, and then compete by sending a working file back and forth in fifteen minute increments, or “volleys.”

Content ranges from video production to old-fashioned illustration. Participants are limited only by time. All content is appropriate, as long as it can be created in fifteen minutes. Winners are determined based on not only their creative brawn, but also their message and the cleanliness of each round’s delivery. Trash talking is preferred.

Layer Tennis has a cult following that I’m sure rivals the fan base of Rocky Horror Picture Show in it’s pure dedication to the cause, and those who are interested can follow along live as the action unfolds; via facebook, twitter or the Layer Tennis site. Granted, following fanboys (and girls) are a little less drag, a little more design, but the core concept of their rabid fanaticism remains the same.

I’d point out the further flaws of that particular demographic of creative geekdom if I weren’t…you know…one of them.
